Orchard is a Specialist County Provision within Fred Nicholson School for autistic individuals who have complex needs, including a learning need, alongside their autism diagnosis. These young people’s needs cannot be met within other specialist or mainstream schools within Norfolk. They may also have behaviour which can challenge those around them and could hinder their access to education, meaning they may have struggled to be successful in an alternative provision from other provisions.

There are four different buildings that make up the Orchard provision; Orchard Lodge, Orchard Pod, Orchard House and Orchard Class. The number of pupils educated in each area range from three to six. There are a number of factors that go into identifying a suitable building for a pupil, including age, learning stage and area of need. Pupils are taught on a 1:1 basis, with opportunities to access small group learning as appropriate.

Each building includes areas of low stimulus for self-regulation, sensory enrichment areas and communal spaces to develop social interaction skills. Our Orchard provision is accredited by the National Autistic Society.
