The Local Authority is responsible for all admissions to complex needs schools. If a parent wishes their child to attend Fred Nicholson School they need to contact their Education Health Care Plan Co-ordinator via the Area Education Office. Admissions for Orchard and our Sixth Form follow the same process.

We currently meet the needs of pupils who have complex learning difficulties and additional needs relating to the autistic spectrum, social and emotional needs, speech and language delay, sensory impairments and physical impairment.

We recognise that decisions about school placement are never easy, and we will be happy to share more information about our school with families, once professionals have suggested this as a possible way forward. It is important however, that parents recognise the decisions about placements are made by the Local Authority and not the school. Transport is also arranged by the Local Authority but again we are happy to support you with any concerns that you might have.

If your child gains a place at Fred Nicholson School, we will be in contact about transition arrangements for you and your child.
