In accordance with Government requirements, the three core strategic functions of the governing body of Fred Nicholson School (FNS) are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the performance of the school and its’ pupils.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure the funding is prudently spent.
This means that the Governing Body is responsible for the long-term management and direction of the school whilst supporting the Head, staff, children and parents. We help to decide the school’s aims and values and set the strategic direction for the school. As well as decisions about what is taught and school policies; we approve the budget and educational targets and keep the school under review, moving forwards and outward looking.
The governing body, of FNS was reconstituted in 2015 and comprises of:
2 staff governors (including the Headteacher)
2 Trust governors
3 parent governors
3 co-opted governors
1 Local Authority Governor
The full governing body meets 5 times a year. Each member of the Governing Body serves on at least one of our two committees responsible for particular areas of school life. These meet each half term.
These are two:
Resources – this focuses on finance, staffing, premises, health and safety & GDPR.
Standards and development – this focuses on curriculum, teaching and learning, behaviour and safeguarding, pupils and residential provision.
We also have committees that meet if required to consider disciplinary and staffing matters.
